Shea butter! There’s so much to love about this powerhouse ingredient from the Motherland. It is incredibly high in oleic acid, which softens and moisturizes dry skin and hair. It also contains vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, and phytosterols which provide protection from UV rays. In addition, it contains allantoin, which speeds up the repair of cracked, chapped skin and helps to retain moisture.
Shea butter is made when the nut which grows on the shea tree is crushed, roasted, ground, and then mixed with water to form a creamy paste. This is then kneaded to extract the oils which will eventually become butter. Some people are allergic to nuts, and that can include nuts from the shea tree. If you are allergic to nuts, it may be best to avoid shea butter until you are sure that you will not have any negative side effects.
Shea butter can be found in our multi-use Genesis and Viridescent butters.
